The research specialist will advance the organization by bringing in experience with synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials to develop next-generation pressure sensitive technologies. Responsibilities:
Develop robust new pressure sensitive materials by taking an in-depth structure property approach Understand how polymeric architecture tunes final material properties Consult or lead current strategic platform technologies to drive business growth Conduct hands-on experimentation in a safe and efficient manner Become self-sufficient with various rheological and analytical techniques such as DMA, extensional rheology, and probe tack Champion and develop platforms in alignment with Avery Dennison's 2030 sustainability initiatives Keep current with academic and industrial literature to drive ideation sessions and new platforms Effectively communicate long and short term technical risks to both technical and general audiences Develop skills and knowledge in adjacent fields through collaboration with subject matter experts throughout the organization Lead, develop, and implement comprehensive technical project plans. Determine resources, actions, and timelines for both long and short term. Collaborate with corporate intellectual property counsel regarding right to market, patent applications and office actions. Assist other scientists in patent activities and filings. Maintain an accurate electronic lab notebook and records. Actively participate in process safety management and employee safety programs to drive continuous improvement Actively advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace Qualifications Required:
B.S. with 6
years of experience, MS with 4
years experience or PhD with 0
years experience in the field of chemistry, polymer science/engineering or materials science Polymer synthesis via chain growth or step-growth polymerizations Understanding of how polymer and network structure drives performance changes in thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers, elastomers or viscoelastic materials Ability to efficiently report out on state-of-the-art academic and industrial literature Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills via publications and presentations Well-developed time management skills with the ability handle multiple projects and prioritize based on business needs Proven track record of commitment to safety culture and experience with laboratory safety and chemical hazards Preferred
Experience:
Knowledge of dynamic networks and stimuli responsive materials Deep understanding of polymerization kinetics and thermodynamics Ability to design model experiments to elucidate mechanisms Synthesis and characterization of functional monomers, crosslinkers and additives Detailed knowledge of rheological characterization and application testing of polymeric materials Synthesis and formulation experience in complementary chemistry such as urethanes, silicones, epoxies and hotmelt glues Proven skill in leading small teams
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
